I’d like to inject something we’ve learned in the process of building and providing a Google News compliant news facility out of the box as part of http://www.seosamba.com.

The vetting process is manual, as such one need to wait to have enough articles before submitting it to Google News, about 30 days worth, with one article a day seems to do it. Approval process is about 2 weeks from submission time.

The structure needs to be compliant in terms of URL, folder, sitemapnewsindex.xml.

Publish at the beginning or end of the news cycle to maximize the rewards of being on top either while there’s not much competition yet, or everyone else has already written about it .

Provide the news on RSS fees and focus on increasing popularity of these feeds to help with trust.

Keep in mind that in the News game, Yahoo is actually a bigger player in direct news readership than Google News…at least for most markets we’ve looked at.
